Our definite outline (work-in-progress)

So we've decided to focus our attention on the geopolitical history of oil in Iran and how this has shaped it's current geostrategy. Let's get a new outline up here and get this presentation ready to roll. I'm going to make this brief because I have to get started on my 15 page research paper for another class, and I'm getting overwhelmed in my readings and balancing out work. We only briefly talked about this, so if I get your “role” wrong just fix it : ) you can edit my post just comment on what changes you made so we all know.
I took some ideas from our first post on the blog.

Anthony: I’m going to try and focus my 6-8 pages on the beginning of oil in Iran to the early 60’s and if I have time, I’ll try to go into 60-90’s but if someone else has time, or Sam as you’re researching OPEC and the fluctuation of oil’s price I’m sure you’ll be in this time frame a lot in your research.

I.                   The discovery of oil in Iran
A.    Where was it located
B.     Who found it, who retained the rights of it
C.     Who oversaw production etc. background on the company that discovered oil.
D.    What were the first major international companies that came and started oil operations after the first discovery of oil in Iran. What were the consequences of this are those companies still in existence / are they still in Iran? Did these companies impact the political economy of Iran in any way; if so in what way?
II.                WWI and any affect it had on Iran and its oil
III.             WWII and any affect it might have had on Iran and its oil
IV.             How oil has shaped the political economy of Iran.
A.    Through the first discovery
B.     Nationalization of their oil in the 50’s: The coalition of IOC’s that was formed after the first nationalization of Iran’s oil.

V.                How international oil companies and governments have affected the political economy of Iran 1908-1960

A.    The U.S., Britain and the USSR in particular. Also   Anglo-Iranian
VI.             Did the Suez Crisis affect Iran? If so in what way?
VII.     Important political figures who have significantly altered the geostrategy of Iran's oil. 1908-1960
            A. Mossadegh, the Shah's (see Yergin)
            B. US IOC and government officials (see your notes on Yergins Suez Canal for more important figures -- ignore this it's a note to myself)

Sam: OPEC and the changes of prices in oil in the ME, and how Iran was affected or created these fluctuations. ?
I.                   Formation of OPEC.
a.       History and current status of OPEC
b.      How OPEC has shaped the price of oil, how Iran in particular has contributed to this
c.       Iran’s aspirations in OPEC
d.   Iran's relationship with the other members from its inception to now. In particular the Saudi-Iranian relationship and the role the U.S. played as a mediator for many years.
II.                Price changes in Iran’s oil throughout the years?
a.       The significance of the Arab oil embargo in 1973 and the outbreak of the Iranian Revolution in 1979 and how other factors that sharply affected the supply or cost of oil?
You can once again edit this post guys; let’s try to edit this instead of commenting your additions (Although say “Hey I added XXXX as you can see above”), so we can have a definite easily comprehensible outline to base our PowerPoint / research paper on.
Andrea: Future implications, 90’s – now?
I.                   Iran’s current geostrategy?
a.       How this was formed since the 79’ revolution?
b.      Enduring nationalism?
c.       Are there still international oil companies controlling the production of the major fields in Iran? Etc.

I don’t know exactly what you guys want to do so once again just update this post and let us know! We’d appreciate any feedback Professor. I'm sure I missed a bunch of important stuff.

(It's easier to copy-paste in word if you're trying to do the autoformat outlining such as roman numerals and the sub-catagories just be careful you don't lose this in translation!)

  1. I'll start in 1979 and talk about the revolution/war/sanctions and how this has all effected the present!
